Haemostasis and blood clotting
Haemostasis, the medical term for bleeding control and blood clotting, is an essential process in the human body. Haemostasis stops bleeding and thus preserves the integrity of the vascular system. Immediately after an injury, the blood vessels contract and platelets form a temporary clot (primary haemostasis). Blood clotting sets in, the clot is stabilised and the wound is sealed (secondary haemostasis). Haemostatic agents such as natural starches or chitosan can be used to support haemostasis.
Our product HaemoCer™ PLUS has been specially developed for haemostasis. Due to its hydrophilic properties, HaemoCer™ PLUS has an extremely high water absorption capacity, which accelerates natural blood coagulation – haemostasis – without chemical or pharmaceutical interaction. This leads to an accumulation of fibrin, thrombin and red blood cells at the source of the haemorrhage. An endogenous clot forms and the haemorrhage is stopped. Once the haemostasis is complete, the wound is surrounded by a stable and firmly adhering layer of gel. This gel matrix serves as an additional barrier to protect against renewed haemorrhage.
Innovative PURE™ Technology
HaemoCer™ PLUS was developed on the basis of PURE™ technology (Polysaccharide Ultra-hydrophilic Resorbable Engineering). HaemoCer™ PLUS is modified to create an ultra-hydrophilic cross-linked polysaccharide that fulfils all the requirements of a biocompatible and absorbable haemostatic agent.
The high absorption effect of the individual particles removes fluid from the blood so that solid blood components, such as blood cells and platelets, are enriched within a few seconds and haemostasis – and subsequently blood clotting – begins. HaemoCer™ PLUS therefore simply accelerates the physiological coagulation cascade without any chemical or pharmaceutical influence.

Simple application, effective effect – HaemoCer™ PLUS for haemostasis
The application of HaemoCer™ PLUS for haemostasis is carried out in four steps according to the DAPI principle: Dry, Apply, Press and Irrigate.
DRY
Remove any excess blood
APPLY
Apply HaemoCer™ PLUS quickly and generously to the source of bleeding
PRESS
Apply moderate pressure to the wound with a dry compress
IRRIGATE
Moisten the compress sufficiently to loosen it and prevent it from sticking together
Adhesion prevention
Adhesions are scar tissue that can form after inflammation, surgery or tumours. This results in fan-shaped or cord-like adhesions between organs or tissue surfaces in the abdominal cavity that are not normally connected to each other. Adhesions are usually caused by injuries to the sensitive organ membranes during surgery. Even tiny injuries or mere traumatisation of organs can lead to local inflammation
To build up the adhesion barrier, the powder is applied generously to the tissue to be protected and then moistened with sterile water or a saline solution. The HaemoCer™ PLUS powder absorbs the liquid and transforms into a protective gel layer. This barrier prevents contact with other tissue during the post-operative healing process.
This adhesion barrier can be created for both open and minimally invasive procedures. We have various HaemoCer™ applicators in our portfolio for this purpose.
DRY
Excess blood must be removed by suction, wiping or dabbing
APPLY
HaemoCer™ PLUS powder generously and evenly over the entire mesothelial defect and wound surfaces
IRRIGATE
Moisten the powder with sterile saline solution or sterile water until the powder is completely converted into a gel
