EHS 2026 Porto / Portugal
Anyone entering the Alfândega do Porto Congress Centre for the first time is bound to pause in their tracks. The neoclassical building was constructed between 1859 and 1869 to a design by the French architect Jean Colson and originally served as a customs house – a central hub for trade, particularly in the famous port wine. What amazes many visitors most, however, is that a railway line once connected the east side of the building to Campanhã station – parts of these tracks are still visible in the floor of the building today. Goods were delivered directly by train to the customs house, unloaded and cleared. History you can touch, right in the midst of the congress proceedings.
And just as these tracks run like a common thread through the entire building, a single theme ran like a common thread through our participation in the 48th EHS Congress: the question of how modern materials and technologies can make hernia surgery safer, gentler and more efficient.
Three days of hernia surgery
From 3 to 5 June 2026, the annual congress of the European Hernia Society brought together leading hernia surgeons, researchers and industry partners from all over the world at the historic Customs House on the Douro. Under the motto “Bridging the Future of Hernia Repair”, discussions, comparisons and further developments took place – and BioCer was right at the heart of it all with its own stand.
Surgical meshes, haemostasis and face-to-face discussions
At our stand, we presented our solutions for modern hernia care: our titanium-coated surgical meshes TiO₂Mesh and TiO₂Mesh Light, our plant-based haemostatic agents, and our coating technologies. What makes the EHS Congress particularly valuable for BioCer is the quality of the discussions: hernia surgeons who work with mesh implants and intraoperative haemostasis on a daily basis provide exactly the kind of feedback that counts for the further development of our solutions.
Grazie, Porto – or rather: Obrigado!
Porto delivered – the city, the venue, the atmosphere and, last but not least, the conversations at the stand. We would like to thank all visitors who took the time to visit us and are already looking forward to the next EHS Congress.

BioCer returns to the EHS
From 3 to 5 June 2026, the picturesque coastal city of Porto will become the hub of international hernia surgery. Once again this year, BioCer is continuing its long-standing tradition and will be exhibiting at the annual congress of the European Hernia Society (EHS).
Under the inspiring motto “Bridging the Future of Hernia Repair”, the 48th EHS Congress brings together leading surgeons, researchers and industry experts at the historic Alfândega do Porto Congress Centre. As an innovative medical technology company “Made in Germany”, we look forward to presenting our latest developments and proven solutions for modern hernia care in this high-calibre setting.
Focus on innovation: safety and efficiency
In hernia surgery, the demands on materials and technology are higher than ever before. BioCer stands for pioneering solutions in the fields of haemostasis and implant technology. At our stand, we will be presenting:
- State-of-the-art surgical meshes: Find out more about our specialised mesh implants, designed for maximum biocompatibility and long-term stability.
- Plant-based haemostasis: Discover our solutions for rapid and safe haemostasis, which optimise the surgical workflow and enhance patient safety.
- Coating technologies: We will show you how innovative surface functionalisation can improve the integration of implants.
Face-to-face dialogue in Porto
A congress thrives on exchange. For the BioCer team, the EHS is the ideal platform to receive direct feedback from clinical practice and to discuss the future of abdominal wall surgery together.
“With its blend of history and modernity, Porto offers the perfect setting for building bridges to the future of surgery. We look forward to seeing long-standing partners again and making new contacts,” says Jörg Langheinrich (Sales Manager).
